Walter Bentley built his company with £8,000 of government prize money and a singular obsession: aluminium pistons. In twelve years he produced 3,051 handbuilt cars, won Le Mans five times, and created the most celebrated racing machines in British history — the Speed Six, the Blower, the 8-Litre. Then he went bankrupt and lost everything. Decades later, the name Walter created was reborn as the Continental GT — a grand tourer that sold over 3,000 deposits before a single car left the factory, grew production from 1,000 to 10,000 cars a year, and in 2022 generated €708 million in profit on €3.38 billion in revenue. This is the story of the cars that made a legend, and the cars that rescued it.
