The Solheim Cup has grown into one of the prime vents in the sporting calendar. A tournament comprised of emotion, unforgettable moments and controversy (in part). It's certainly helped transform the landscape of the women’s game.
In this episode, we take a journey through the history of the Solheim Cup, from its beginnings in 1990 to the global sporting spectacle it has become today. Along the way, we’re joined by one of the competition’s most important figures, Alison Nicholas.
Alison has experienced the Solheim Cup from almost every possible angle. She played in the inaugural event at Lake Nona in 1990, was part of the European team that secured its first victory just two years later, represented Europe in six consecutive Solheim Cups, and later captained the side — famously leading Europe to victory at Killeen Castle in Ireland in 2011.
And there is one remarkable piece of history that belongs to Alison...she hit the first shot in Solheim Cup history.
