This week, Meghan is joined live from Moby’s in East Hampton by John Gargano, director of events and revenue for a group of restaurants between New York and the Hamptons, and Xavier, the 25-year-old he took in and who just walked his first runway at fashion week. John’s story is one for the ages: a farm kid from South Jersey who found his purpose in hospitality, then lost his way and was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison. He wrote his own clemency petition to President Obama and got the call that he was going home, after 13 years, from the warden’s office. He rebuilt his life by cracking beer cans in a beer garden for $10 an hour, then rose to GM of Craft. Now John’s life rights have been sold for a movie, with any proceeds pledged to helping others get a second chance. Xavier shares his own path to New York with $400 and a love of fashion, and why John’s belief in him changed everything. Together, they make the case for hiring the “unconventional workforce,” paying it forward, and never giving up, especially if you’re 25 and think your life is over.
