Jon Lampley is a trumpet and sousaphone player, a singer-songwriter, a composer, and a bandleader. He just wrapped up 11 years as part of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s house band with Louis Cato and Jon Batiste. He co-founded the high-energy jazz-funk ensemble Huntertones and has performed for years with jam-rock mainstays O.A.R. and pop-soul powerhouse Lake Street Dive.

His new solo album Notes to Self is out now and you can catch him on tour this fall!

Jon joins Eric to talk about the first time he heard D’Angelo and sneaking secular music growing up. He reflects on 25 years of playing trumpet, educates us on how Louis Armstrong changed the instrument, and debates whether classic recordings should be remastered using A.I. Jon also remembers jamming with Paul McCartney, shares his love of Jackie Evans, and talks about his favorite track on his new album.

Then Producer Byrnes joins for… BEST SONG EVER.
