In March 1998, 23-year-old Stacey Colbert vanished from her apartment in Columbus, Ohio after failing to show up for work. Inside her home, investigators found signs of a struggle but no signs of forced entry — suggesting Stacey may have known the person who came to her door.
Six years later, hunters discovered human remains in a remote area of Delaware County. The remains were identified as Stacey, but after years of exposure to the elements, her cause of death could not be determined.
Over the decades, detectives have pursued multiple leads, including a man who had been romantically interested in Stacey and helped her move into the apartment where she was last seen. Today, investigators say they believe the case is solvable — but the evidence needed to bring charges has not yet been secured. More than 25 years later, Stacey’s family continues to fight for answers.
