Michelle Makori, President & Editor-in-Chief of Miles Franklin Media, speaks with Brien Lundin, editor and publisher of Gold Newsletter and president and CEO of the New Orleans Investment Conference, about rising sovereign debt risks, Treasury market intervention and what gold may be signaling about the global financial system.
Lundin explains why higher long-term yields are increasingly reflecting concerns about government debt and repayment rather than inflation, and why the same forces driving yields higher could also support gold. He warns that extreme equity valuations and emerging liquidity pressures may eventually trigger a market event, followed by a central bank rescue far larger than the interventions deployed during the COVID crisis.
Looking ahead, Lundin sees a generational opportunity in gold, silver and undervalued mining equities. He believes gold could approach or exceed $5,000 before the end of 2026, silver could return to approximately $100 in 2027, and major gold producers could potentially rise fourfold or fivefold as investors recognize the sector’s historically strong margins.
