In this meditation, we reflect on one of the oldest and richest symbols in the Christian contemplative tradition: light.
Beginning with the light that surrounds us each day—from candles and lamps to the sun, moon and stars—we gradually turn our attention to the inner light of awareness that shines within every human being. Finally, we contemplate what the Christian mystical tradition calls uncreated light: the divine light that is the source of all creation and the light by which we perceive every other light.
Through gentle awareness of the breath, gratitude and visualisation, this meditation invites us to recognise that we are always surrounded by light, sustained by light, and ultimately held in the loving presence of divine light.
This meditation supports contemplative prayer, mindfulness, gratitude, spiritual awareness and a deeper appreciation of God's presence throughout creation.
