Jesus predicts his death. In this episode, Jesus says he must go to Jerusalem to suffer, die and be raised on the third day. Peter says “Never Lord” and rebukes Jesus. Here we learn that the disciples did not yet understand Jesus’ mission to die for our sins and be resurrected! Jesus tells Peter “Get behind me Satan” because Peter is getting in the way of God’s plan to save us from sin. In this episode we also learn that the concerns of men and the concerns of God are different. Jesus tells us to “deny yourself and take up your cross”. He also says “whoever wants to save their life must lose it”. We will show our priorities in life by our actions and Jesus will return as judge.
