Welcome back to History's Not Boring by Kidopoly.com with your hosts Mira and Finn! Today, we're traveling back in time to explore two of the greatest civilizations in the Americas: the Maya and the Aztecs! Did you know they are often mixed up, even though they lived hundreds of years apart?
First, we'll trek deep into the jungles of ancient Mexico and Guatemala to find the Maya! Over 2,000 years ago, they built massive stone cities with towering pyramid temples, created an amazing calendar, and invented one of the first writing systems! But then, around 900 AD, their cities were mysteriously abandoned to the rainforest! What happened?!
Next, we'll fast forward to 1325 to meet the Aztecs! Instead of a jungle, they built their unbelievable floating capital city, Tenochtitlan, right in the middle of a giant lake! Their mighty empire ruled millions of people until Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes arrived in 1519.
Both built astonishing pyramids, but for totally different reasons! Grab your explorer's hat and join Mira and Finn to uncover the epic differences between these two incredible Mesoamerican empires!
