In their recap of The Lowdown’s S2E2, “Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound,” hosts Christian and Kurt dig into what feels like na lighter, jokier season where the supporting cast gets to let loose.

They follow Lee’s two-front persistence, from a sexy prison guard calendar and that “Legs and eggs” sign to a long night with Chili Franks, an ex-prison guard with bleached tips played by newly minted Oil Man of the Night Paul Schneider.

Along the way they note Abel Bell holding court on Neil Young, Waylon and Emmylou with vampires extracting oil as a metaphor, an MF Doom clock on the Hoot Owl wall, a Holdenville Dijon nod to Sterlin’s hometown, and a Lowdown foot-fetish for the ages.

Of course they gotta talk music, from Neil Young’s “Vampire Blues” and Hank Williams Jr.’s “Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound” to more Waylon than last season’s JJ Cale, plus movie references including The Killing of a Chinese Bookie and Mean Streets. Long live Chili Franks.
