American Psycho: Business Cards & Bloody Chainsaws

American Psycho sex scene breakdown from intimacy coordinators: chainsaws, sex workers, modesty garments, and a very confused Patrick Bateman.

An intimacy coordinator's take on satire, simulated sex, and making the absurd feel intentional

This week we cover Patrick Bateman's two infamous intimacy scenes with Christie, Sabrina, and Elizabeth, including the iconic mirror moment and that very memorable chainsaw chase. We get into staging, modesty garments, masking, choreography, actor boundaries, power dynamics, and how Mary Harron and Christian Bale intentionally made the sex scenes feel strange, disconnected, and completely unsexy.

Plus: we put both scenes through the Spice Scale, and somehow they got an A.

American Psycho (2000)
