This week Tom Alban finally makes it onto The SinBin Pod with a story from his teenage years about heavy metal, misplaced confidence and the kind of school performance that only becomes embarrassing once you realise everyone else saw it very differently.
At 14, Tom is deep into Marilyn Manson, black nail varnish and the belief that he might just have what it takes to front a rock band. So when a school music competition gives him the chance to prove himself in front of hundreds of people, he throws himself into it completely.
The problem is, Tom’s confidence is doing a lot more work than his actual musical ability. What follows is a performance he initially thinks is legendary, a very delayed moment of self-awareness, and the painful discovery that the audience may not have been reacting for the reasons he thought.
Expect:
✔ Tom Alban on his teenage heavy metal phase
✔ Trying to rebel while still obeying private school rules✔ Becoming the frontman of a school rock band
✔ A huge school performance fuelled almost entirely by confidence
✔ The moment Tom realises he may not have been as good as he thought
✔ An attempted post-performance romantic victory
✔ Cox in the Corner: Marc finds a particularly personal angle for Tom
✔ Sinner or Winner: a disgusting spot-popping disaster vs dirty talk gone spectacularly wrong
✔ Plus a bonus confession from Tom that somehow manages to be even more disgusting
