What if one of the best experiences of your life isn't part of the plan?

In this episode, I share the story of an Iceland adventure that involved an unexpected volcanic eruption, three kilometers of ankle-breaking terrain, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and one of the most incredible things I've ever witnessed.

When a volcano erupted shortly before my trip, a tour I'd already booked suddenly became an opportunity to see an active volcano up close. I hadn't researched it to death. I didn't know exactly what I was getting myself into. I simply said yes.

After hours of hiking over rocks and questioning my life choices, I reached the top of a hill and saw something I'll never forget: lava bubbling and splashing inside an active crater.

The experience reminded me that while plans give us direction, they shouldn't prevent us from recognizing incredible opportunities when they appear.

💡 What You'll Learn:

  • Why unexpected opportunities can become our most memorable experiences
  • How sticking too rigidly to a plan can cause us to miss what's right in front of us
  • Why stepping outside your comfort zone doesn't require abandoning good judgment
  • How saying yes to something unfamiliar can lead to extraordinary experiences
  • Why the difficult journey can make the view at the end even more meaningful

🛠️ Action Step: The next time an unexpected opportunity appears, pause before dismissing it. Ask yourself: “Am I saying no because this is genuinely a bad idea, or simply because it wasn't part of my plan?”

📌 Perfect For:

  • Anyone navigating change or uncertainty
  • Leaders facing unexpected opportunities
  • People who tend to over-plan or overthink decisions
  • Travelers and adventure seekers
  • Anyone who needs a reminder to occasionally embrace the unexpected

Why these work

  • LinkedIn: Opens with the core lesson, uses the volcano story to earn that lesson, and finishes with a question that encourages comments.
  • Canva: Both options work independently of the story, with the second providing stronger visual imagery.
  • Episode description: Preserves the personality and humor of the original while making the practical takeaway immediately clear.
