Unconditional peace is so monotonous - Expeditions into Boredom

Dela

The title of this series is — well, something about boredom, something about exploring with boredom and a kind of monotonousness, in a way, of some of these underlying qualities that can give us a sense of peace. And I actually have forgotten the title that I gave to this series. It was that unmemorable. But the gist here is if there’s a way to lightly ease ourselves into kind of undramatic being. That may not be very interesting. We can just see.

I know for myself, speaking from my own experience, there’s parts of me that, when I begin to get into a rhythm of, oh, this feels nice. This feels steady. This feels, dare I say, peaceful. There’s a part of me that’s like, ah, that’s nice. And then there’s a part of me like, well, what’s next? And if I follow that, there is going to be a what’s next. I will find something. I will make something.

It is really easy to bring our striving into our practice. And so this is a chance to — yeah, we’re not aiming for no thoughts. We’re not aiming for an absorbed state of concentration. We’re just going to head out on this exploration where we’ll give ourselves a chance to kind of be with some of the monotony of unconditional, ever-present qualities. Qualities of nature’s flow, qualities of presence. And whenever that restlessness comes up, or whenever the backlog comes up, I’ll just be like, oh, I’m in the midst of an expedition. How deeply into the depths of boredom and monotony can I go?

It is an open question whether one can be curious about boredom and be bored. But we can be curious about that as well, too.

Expeditions into Boredom Series

Let's explore our personal frontiers of un-drama in the monotony of nature's flow. Over the course of an hour, how might I attain a depth of boredom that's a new personal record? What if we got really curious about what's ongoing, ever-present, and seemingly... boring?

Monotonous can feel boring. If I'm curious about boredom, can I actually *be* bored?

Let's see!
