On November 5, 1975, six forestry workers reported that their coworker Travis Walton vanished after a luminous encounter near Turkey Springs, Arizona. Their report triggered a missing-person search, scrutiny of the men who had left him behind, and one of the most disputed alleged abduction cases in American history.
Walton returned during the night of November 10–11 and described waking aboard an unfamiliar craft. But the search had not found him, no independent record continuously placed him during the missing interval, and the case soon became tangled in conflicting polygraph results, a false Tucson-hospital report, tabloid involvement, a proposed contract motive, and a public dispute over evidence APRO left out of its first detailed account.
This episode follows the documented sequence: the crew’s report to Deputy Chuck Allison in Heber, the search through the Turkey Springs area, the crew examinations, Walton’s return, his early account, and the 1976 conflict between APRO and Philip J. Klass. The question is not whether the case has a simple answer. It is what the surviving record can establish—and what still lies inside five unobserved days.
