The Chicago Cubs blew another late lead against the Milwaukee Brewers tonight, and this one hurts even more as they drop the series in Milwaukee.
Carson Kelly came through with a huge late hit to give the Cubs the lead and put them in position to steal the game. But once again, the bullpen couldn’t hold it — and Jacob Webb ultimately became the reason the Cubs lost.
Webb’s outing turned a two-run lead with two outs in the 9th inning into another brutal loss in extra innings, raising even more questions about Craig Counsell’s bullpen decisions and whether the Cubs have enough reliable arms to survive the stretch run.
The Cubs are running out of opportunities, and these late-inning collapses against Milwaukee could come back to haunt them when the playoff picture is decided.
