In 2018, 26-year-old American missionary John Allen Chau illegally travelled to North Sentinel Island, determined to make contact with one of the world’s most isolated peoples.

But the story didn’t begin with that final journey. This is the story of the obsession that consumed much of his life, the people he was determined to reach, and the long and complicated history of outsiders trying to make contact with North Sentinel Island.
