Acting Army Secretary Adam Telle has set the execution of Nidal Hasan, 56, for Dec. 3 at 1 p.m. at Fort Hood, Texas — the same post where he killed 13 people and wounded 32 in November 2009, and close to the hour the shooting began. It would be the first U.S. military execution since 1961 and the Army's first firing squad since 1945. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said this week the public will be able to watch, and the Pentagon confirmed Thursday it will be livestreamed, without saying where it would be hosted or what viewers would see. The plan has drawn bipartisan objection, and Army Regulation 190-55, which governs military executions and bars anyone under 18 from attending, does not address livestreaming. Presidential approval does not guarantee an execution: Ronald Gray's was approved in 2008 and halted in federal court. Also: Russell Brand's trial opened at Southwark Crown Court with jury selection; he denies all seven charges. And Christa Gail Pike has been discharged from hospital and returned to the Debra K. Johnson Rehabilitation Center, ten days after Tennessee's failed execution. Garret Fisher reports.
