ep. 222 - Kill Me, I'm Irish-American: How to Travel in Ireland

Dela

No country suffers more from the American need for ancestral heritage than Ireland.

Ireland is full of hyphenated Americans who are looking for some kind of belonging because they do not have it in America. The American obsession with heritage is a kind of subconscious self-loathing. It is not enough to be American. It is not enough to have it all. No, we must be Irish, or Italian or EUROPEAN, even though we have no real relationship to those places. We gave that all up when we entered the diaspora.

So what do the Irish think of "Irish-Americans?" How can you travel to Ireland without being a part of the problem?

Brother Isaac is joined by Ciarán of Corner Späti to guide him through the land of a thousand welcomes.

Also, support the show and and show your true Irish heritage with the new "Kill Me, I'm Irish-American" t-shirt. Available in white, black and green.
