The Position I Put Off for a Year: How Hiring an Executive Assistant has Changed My Business (And My Life!) | An Honest Conversation with My EA Samantha

Dela

How long have you been doing everything yourself, and what has that actually cost you?

I posted a job for an executive assistant in December. Samantha answered it. And this conversation is everything I wish I had heard before I waited as long as I did.
Samantha is my executive assistant, and in this episode she is sitting across from me talking through the whole story. How long I resisted hiring, what finally made me stop stalling and post the job, how Samantha found the listing and what set her apart from every other applicant, and what the role of an executive assistant actually looks like in practice, including the unglamorous parts: the returns, the photo shoot logistics, the things that never made it into the job description but quietly make everything else possible.

We also talk about what an executive assistant actually absorbs that you cannot put a line item on. The cognitive load. The decisions that seem small but add up. The mental energy you are spending on things that have nothing to do with growing your business, and what becomes available when someone else is holding all of that.

And we get honest about the identity piece underneath the decision, because for most high-achieving women, the real reason they do not hire an executive assistant has nothing to do with the budget. It has to do with the belief that needing help means something. This episode is about what it costs to hold that belief, and what changes when you finally let it go.
