This week on the pod, we’re traveling back in time and heading west to soak up all the cocaine, booze and tits that 1988 LA has to offer as we watched the documentary “The Decline of Western Civilization Part 2: The Metal Years”. While admittedly neither of us are that impacted by the genre of hair metal (Let alone alive at the time to bask in it’s scarf and leather laden glory), you still can’t help but admire the sparkle in the eyes of the young musicians and fans at the center of this film all doing their damndest to express themselves and follow their dreams. Join us as we marvel at what a mixed bag of characters this subculture at the center of this film appears to be. While at times the 80’s metal scene comes across as a place of rampant misogyny, unreported sexual assaults, alcohol abuse and bands that all sound the same; what does eek through is the genuine passion and an earnest “go for broke” mentality that sits in the spirit of everyone involved in this film. Sure, some are in it for the girls, the money, the fame; but in between the debt, divorces and broken dreams, for 25 minutes on stage each night, these people are gods. Plus, concert regrets, debating whether we’d go vegan or decaf first, and God Bless Lemmy. Are you ready to Rock, on this weeks Episode of “I Didn’t Need To See That!”
