The Sameer Project is a donations based aid initiative, led by Palestinians, working to supply emergency shelter and aid to displaced families in Gaza.
With their almost 200 employees in Gaza and using whatever is available on the ground, they have managed to help thousands of Palestinians everyday in a consistent and dignified manner. This is something established international organizations failed to do, due to their reliance on external goods controlled by "Israel" and the "Israeli" permission they require to operate in Gaza among other things. The Sameer Project does not just distribute donations but build infrastructure like desalination plants and bakeries to turn the aid into sustainable stability.
We talked to co-founders Lena and Hala on why and how they started the project, what the current situation on the ground is and aid as politics.
