Ewan Gunter: Becoming the manager of the Anguilla national team, uncovering the talent on the small Caribbean Island, and his coaching journey that began at the University of South Wales

We had our first-ever national team manager on the podcast! And, even better for us, he’s a Welshman. We were delighted to be joined by Newport-born football coach Ewan Gunter, who was recently appointed Head Coach of Anguilla, a small island in the Caribbean.

We talked about how his work through FIFA’s Talent Development Scheme led him to Anguilla and eventually to landing the job as head coach. We also got the lowdown on his first four games in charge, which took place just a few weeks ago during the CONCACAF Nations League.

Plus, Ewan talked us through his coaching journey, from his studies at the University of South Wales and his experiences with the academies at his hometown club Newport County and Swansea City, to how he ended up working with FIFA.

If you're interested in Anguillan football, we also spoke to Gareth Thomas a few months ago about his work with Uprising FC and his social media work for the Anguilla Football Association.
