Just when you thought Red Tories had gone extinct, Mark Graham and colleagues start an online journal called the Red Tory Standard.
Very few people run around with Tory banners, but then again, Torys aren't the running-around types. But if they were, I suspect we still wouldn't see very many of them.
Mark Graham worked to prove me wrong. For someone who grew up in Northern Ontario, as I did, I found it interesting to hear his passion for the monarchy and polite criticism of what he called American rugged individualism.
I have no natural fondness for the monarchy. I grew up (in the bush) skeptical of the monarchy's lack of ruggedness. But having grown up, in so far as it can be said that I have done so, I've come to value it.
Conservatism is changing in Canada. Everything is up for grabs, as Ginny Roth said last year. Will we see a revival of Red Toryism, or any kind of Toryism, or are Mr. Graham and company singing it's requiem?
We shall see.
Thanks for checking this out. Let me know what you think!

Chapters and AI summary:
Host Shawn Whatley interviews Mark Graham, co-founder of The Red Tory Standard, about Red Toryism and conservatism in Canada. Graham rejects the idea that Red Tories are “liberal but fiscally conservative,” describing them instead as culturally conservative, economically oriented to the common good, anti-radical, anti-continentalist, and wary of market worship, rugged individualism, and deeper integration with the United States. He argues for cultural and economic protectionism to preserve Canadian identity, emphasizes citizens over taxpayers, and supports institutions such as the monarchy as a nonpartisan head of state central to Canada’s purpose. The discussion contrasts liberal and conservative political anthropology, focusing on human nature, rights, legitimacy, inherited wisdom, and the role of government, and ends with Graham calling for diversified trade, stronger military capacity, and reclaiming the establishment from within.
