For Episode 24, The PM Entertainment Podcast straps on our ninja duds and hi-yas! our way through 1993's Magic Kid, the gloriously knockabout PM comedy in which an 11-year-old karate champion from Michigan visits his disaster of an uncle in California, gets mixed up with the mob, and proceeds to kick clumsy gangsters, scuzzy surf bums, leather clad pool hustlers, beach hoods and an entire costume party worth of would-be-assassins in the face. Don "The Dragon" Wilson shows up too, because of course he does.
Starring Ted Jan Roberts as the irrepressible Kevin Ryan and Stephen Furst as his Jack Daniels-for-breakfast, clown agent and gambling maniac, uncle Bob, Magic Kid is Joseph Merhi letting his hair down and trading car chases and exploding buses for clowns, comedy and kid-friendly kung fu, and having an absolute blast doing it.
Together we dig into the golden era of kids' martial arts cinema and the life, career and sad, untimely passing of the wonderful Ted Jan Roberts — Power Rangers, Masked Rider and one of PM Entertainment's most loveable stars.
This one's got heart. And quite a lot of kicking. Let's go. 🥋
