This episode of The History of Bosnia and Herzegovina I focus on the diverse Illyrian tribes that inhabited the region. Although these communities shared certain customs and languages, they were by no means monolithic. Their story was largely written by outsiders—Greeks and Romans—who often dismissed them as “barbarians,” yet evidence shows that the Illyrians formed alliances, fought wars, minted coins, and upheld rich religious practices. Despite sparse written records, the Illyrians’ legacies echo today in Balkan customs.
