Episode Summary
What would you do if your child disappeared and no one believed you?
In this deeply emotional episode of Activate & Illuminate, Melanie Wakelin sits down with Iain Bryson, who shares his account of losing his four-year-old daughter after his first wife took her overseas in 2010. Iain recounts that, shortly before their daughter was taken, his wife told him her family was a cult and that she was returning their daughter because of "mind control." At the time, he says he had no understanding of ritual abuse or trauma-related coercion and struggled to make sense of what was happening.
According to Iain, his efforts to seek help from local authorities, international agencies, and government officials were unsuccessful. His pursuit of answers ultimately led to his arrest in Poland, where he spent fifty months incarcerated before being released in 2015.
Today, Iain has written an evidence-based memoir documenting his experience and continues to advocate for his daughter while raising awareness about trauma, child protection, and the experiences of survivors. Throughout this conversation, Melanie and Iain explore grief, resilience, faith, purpose, healing, and what it means to continue fighting for someone you love.
Listener Note: This episode contains personal accounts and allegations involving child abuse, cults, trauma, and international custody. These are Iain Bryson's experiences and perspectives.
