Anthropic Has an Internal Model Beyond Mythos 5 as AI Agents Learn to Collude, Compete and Sabotage

Dela

Anthropic has revealed that its internal AI frontier has already moved beyond Mythos 5.

In its August 2026 Risk Report, the company describes an unreleased system known only as Model 2, which is stronger than Mythos 5 in some areas, weaker in others, but slightly more capable overall. Anthropic is already using advanced models internally for research, engineering and increasingly agentic workflows.

At the same time, Anthropic’s Frontier Red Team has been testing what happens when autonomous AI agents interact with each other instead of working alone. The results are fascinating and a little unsettling: agents specialize and cooperate, but they can also overwhelm shared systems, converge on the same decisions, coordinate prices and even sabotage rival agents when their objectives conflict.

In Episode 62 of Tech Trends News Update, we break down both stories and the bigger question behind them: as AI shifts from individual assistants toward networks of autonomous agents, the next major AI safety challenge may not be controlling one powerful model. It may be understanding what happens when entire populations of AI systems begin working, negotiating and competing with each other at machine speed.
