The legacy we leave our families isn't only about what we give them. It's also about who we become and the patterns we pass from one generation to the next. In this conversation, I sit down with Dr. Lee Ostler to explore how greater self-awareness, emotional regulation, vulnerability, and connection can transform our relationships with our children and grandchildren.
Lee shares what inspired his work on Grand Connect and why becoming a better version of ourselves may be one of the greatest gifts we can give our families. We explore generational patterns, the developing brain, emotional intelligence, forgiveness, and why accepting our loved ones for who they are can create space for deeper connection and meaningful change.
Keytakeaways:
- The most meaningful legacy we leave may be the emotional patterns and relationships we pass to future generations.
- Children and grandchildren learn emotional regulation by watching how the adults around them respond to stress.
- Becoming more self-aware and emotionally regulated can change patterns that have existed for generations.
- Vulnerability, accountability, and a willingness to apologize can help repair and strengthen family relationships.
- Acceptance does not require agreement, but it can create the connection necessary for positive influence.
- Leading with purpose at home means modeling the qualities we hope our children and grandchildren will develop
