What a joy it was to learn about this temple and the people serving in Colonia Juarez! This is the smallest temple in the church! (6,800 sq ft) and it is the location where President Hinckley came up with the idea for the small temples. He said they would serve area where membership was small - and likely to stay that way - and that describes the Mexico colonies perfectly. The Church sent families and missionaries to northern Mexico in 1885 to find a place for a settlement, eventually 8 colonies were established and these pioneers worked very hard to make the desert blossom as a rose. After a revolution in Mexico, only 2 colonies survived, but they are building strong testimonies there. A disproportionate number of General Authorities come from the colonies, it must be a very special, faithful place to live.Announcement: 4 October 1997Groundbreaking and Site Dedication: 7 March 1998 by Eran A.
