🇬🇧 GET TO KNOW VIPASSANA MEDITATION: how mindfulness can lift up your life
Do you ever feel like your mind is a rushing river tossing you from side to side? When we are overwhelmed by thoughts and emotions, are we truly living in the present moment, or are we just reacting to our own interpretations of reality?
In this episode of Awareness Talks, we sit down with Joy and Ricardo, founders and directors of Choti Dhamma Sathan, a Vipassana meditation center nestled in the nature of Chiang Mai, Thailand. Joy, originally from Thailand, and Ricardo, from Venezuela, share not only a beautiful international love story born through yoga, but also years of deep dedication to mindfulness practice under the lineage of important Buddhist monks like Venerable Ajahn Tong Sirimangalo.
We are not just talking about an ancient technique, but about how Vipassana can become a concrete tool to deconstruct our constant mental stream, reduce suffering, and rediscover true freedom of choice in daily life.
Key topics covered in this episode:
• How to stop blindly reacting to stimuli
• The fundamental differences between Samatha meditation (concentration) and Vipassana (insight)
• The Four Noble Truths as a practical, universal pathway to the cessation of suffering
• The four foundations of mindfulness: body, feelings, mind, and mind objects
• Creating "the gap": the vital space between the observer and thoughts to gain true freedom
• Deconstructing the self: seeing the mind as separate movie frames rather than a solid entity
• What Western neuroscience reveals about how long-term meditation physically changes the brain
• Tips and best practices to cultivate mindfulness in just 5 minutes a day (even while waiting in line or on a train)
A dialogue that invites us to step out of the canoe of automatic thoughts and sit on the riverbank to simply observe, to move from reaction to presence, learning to return "home".
Enjoy listening.
