In this episode of Slow Portuguese With Maria, I talk about one of the most important parts of Portuguese daily life: coffee!
Portugal is famous for its coffee culture. From the small, strong espresso to the abatanado, galão, and meia de leite, coffee is not just a drink — it’s a ritual. I explain how and when Portuguese people usually drink coffee, from the first cup in the morning to a quick espresso at the café counter, or after lunch or dinner.
New Words:
Chávena – cup
Abatanado – a long espresso (less strong than an espresso)
Galão – coffee with a lot of milk, served in a tall glass
