It takes courage to admit your mind is not well. Tonight, we invoke Saint Dymphna — the patron saint of those suffering from mental illness — and pray a prayer that refuses to separate faith from science, because God created both.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18 (NIV)
This prayer covers: clinical depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, PTSD, OCD, the stigma of mental illness in the Church, taking medication without guilt, families caring for loved ones with mental illness, and the truth that therapy and faith are partners, not enemies.
If this prayer gave you permission to take your mental health seriously, write BREAK THE STIGMA in the comments. Share it with someone who needs to hear that God and therapy are not contradictions.
