When Survival Mode Doesn’t Turn Off: Ashley Caron on PTSD and Trauma

Dela

What happens when years of caregiving, advocating, and living in survival mode begin to take a toll on the caregiver?

In this episode of the Get UnPuzzled Podcast, Whitney sits down with Ashley Caron, a mother and content creator with more than one million followers across her social media platforms, for an open conversation about the side of caregiving that is often left unspoken.

Ashley shares her family's journey, some of the difficult experiences she has navigated alongside her son, and the impact those experiences have had on her own mental health—including eventually being diagnosed with PTSD.

Together, Whitney and Ashley talk about caregiver trauma, living in a constant state of alert, the emotions that can come with raising a child with significant needs, and why caregivers need permission to acknowledge that their experiences can affect them, too.

This is a vulnerable conversation about motherhood, trauma, survival, and the importance of reminding caregivers that they do not have to navigate the hardest parts alone.

Content Warning: This episode includes discussions of trauma, PTSD, mental health struggles, and suicidal thoughts. Please listen with care. If you or someone you know is experiencing thoughts of suicide or a mental health crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the United States.

Please stay. Your story is not over.
