We check out three very different new releases: Good Fortune, Aziz Ansari’s spiritual comedy about a down-on-his-luck man who swaps lives with a wealthy investor after a meddling angel (Keanu Reeves) intervenes; Hokum, a slow-burn Irish horror following a troubled novelist who checks into a remote inn rumoured to be haunted by a witch; and The Sheep Detectives, a charming family whodunit where a flock of talking sheep investigate the murder of their shepherd (Hugh Jackman).
We discuss how well each film balances its genre (feel-good messaging vs heavy-handedness in Good Fortune, creeping atmosphere in Hokum, and heart plus clever mystery in The Sheep Detectives), plus which one we’d most recommend for different audiences.
