American patriotism is at an all-time low, and California is ground zero for this crisis. But this Fourth of July, we have a choice. We can continue down the path that has made patriotism controversial, apologizing for love of country rather than celebrating it. Or we can reclaim a healthier, more honest patriotism that recognizes both our imperfections and our extraordinary blessings, both in our country and our state.
