On this episode, co-host David Stuss and I sit down with author and philosopher Christopher Bache to discuss his work in psychedelics and how those protocols presented him with a detailed experience of spiritual reality.
Bache is professor emeritus in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Youngstown State University. He’s also an adjunct faculty member for the California Institute of Integral Studies.
He’s also the author of “LSD and the Mind of the Universe: Diamonds from Heaven,” and “Dark Night, Early Dawn: Steps to a Deep Ecology of Mind.”
The experiences he describes took place over 20 years, and were produced by Bache’s therapeutic protocol of LSD, ingested in 73 massive doses of between 500 and 600 micrograms.
In this interview, Bache describes how his efforts expand on the work of famed researcher Stanislav Grof by demonstrating that during profound states, individual consciousness can expand to encompass the entire human species, allowing access to collective trauma and memories.
Bache defines his distinction between cosmological exploration and spiritual awakening, emphasizing that his high-dose psychedelic work was focused on understanding the universe's deep structure rather than attaining personal enlightenment.
The conversation further covers his experiences with collective suffering, death and rebirth cycles at different consciousness levels, and his vision of humanity undergoing a transformative "diamond soul" awakening that would create a fundamentally new type of human being capable of unified action.
