Engineers finally got to examine the actual hatch mechanism up close for the first time since the incident. What they found was intriguing but still not entirely conclusive. There was some evidence suggesting the static charge or a slight misalignment in the plunger mechanism could theoretically allow it to fire without the astronaut making contact, but no one could say with absolute certainty that this settled the matter once and for all.
