The ins and outs

When we talk about the ins and outs of something, we mean all the important details of how it works, including the less obvious or more complicated parts.

Example: 

Imagine you’ve just started a new job.

During your first week, everything feels a little confusing.

There are procedures to follow, different people to contact, and all sorts of little details you need to remember.

A colleague notices that you’re struggling and says:

“Don’t worry. Nobody expects you to know everything immediately. It’ll take a while to learn the ins and outs of the job.”
