Shortly after entering remission from Hodgkin’s lymphoma, he suffered a fatal gunshot wound at a friend’s home that authorities initially ruled a suicide. His family questioned that conclusion after his phone was returned with communications deleted. Later reviews found DNA from a friend on the gun, possible gunshot residue, signs of an altercation, and forensic concerns about the wound. In 2020, the manner of death was changed to undetermined.
