Have you ever left a networking event, exchanged a few nice-to-meet-yous, and then...nothing? No follow-up. No system.
Just a business card sitting in a drawer somewhere. I hear this from smart, connected entrepreneurs all the time, and this week I'm coaching someone live on exactly that problem.
My guest is Karina Klaus, a psychologist-trained sales coach who helps female coaches and service providers overcome the subconscious resistance that makes selling feel so much harder than it should.
Karina came to this session wanting to move from "good to have met you" networking into something more strategic: real go-to referral partners, a system for organizing her network, and a way to keep those relationships warm over time.
So in this episode you're getting a real, unscripted 30 minute coaching session, not a rehearsed conversation. We work through how to network strategically instead of just collecting contacts, whether you actually need a CRM to track your connections, and how to keep a relationship warm without it feeling forced or salesy.
If you've ever searched how to network strategically, how to build a referral network, or how do I keep in touch with the people I meet, this episode is for you.
It's also a live example of exactly what I teach: visibility creates conversations, conversations create opportunities, and opportunities create clients.
Your next client, referral partner, or collaborator is very often someone you already met once and never followed up with.
In this episode we cover:
Why "good to have met you" isn't a strategy, and what to build instead
How to identify your "go-to people," the small, reliable circle of referral partners every business needs
Whether you need a CRM to manage your network, and what to use if you do
How to keep a network warm without constant outreach or feeling pushy
A real, unscripted coaching call, exactly how it happens inside my paid coaching
FAQ:
How do I network more strategically instead of just collecting contacts? Start by getting honest about what "strategic" actually means for you. Instead of meeting as many people as possible, get specific about who your go-to people are, the handful of referral partners, collaborators, or connectors who consistently send business your way or who you'd trust to send business to. Fewer, deeper relationships beat a stack of business cards every time.
How do I keep my network warm without feeling salesy? Keeping in touch isn't the same as selling. A short check-in, a congratulations on a launch, sharing something that made you think of them, these all keep a relationship warm without asking for anything. The goal is staying present in someone's world so that when an opportunity comes up, you're the person they think of.
Do I need a CRM to track my networking contacts? You don't need anything fancy to start. Even a simple spreadsheet with names, how you met, and your last touchpoint is enough in the beginning. What matters more than the tool is that you actually have a system, so relationships don't quietly go cold just because you didn't write anything down.
How do I turn a networking contact into a referral partner? It starts with follow-up, not a pitch. Reconnect, learn more about what they do and who they serve, and look for a genuine way to be useful to them first. Referral partnerships are built the same way client relationships are, through real conversations, not a single meeting.
