My next guest is another Music Industry legend, he was originally from Detroit, MI. When his family moved to a more affluent area of Birmingham, MI, his life changed for the better. He started his career at 14 years old singing lead vocals in three different bands. He quickly realized he had a knack for behind-the-scenes side and at 17 years old he began his lifelong career of managing bands and as an executive in the Music Industry. Starting in Detroit as a local Promo-Man, then on to National at Mercury Records in Chicago, ABC Records in Los Angeles, United Artists Records, Chrysalis National Album Director then back to Detroit for EMI Records to do Regional Promotion. He also worked as an Independent Promo-man at RSO and Polygram Records. He worked with such artists as Rod Stewart, Backman Turner, NY Dolls, Three Dog Night, Steely Dan, ACE, Joe Walsh, Four Tops, ELO, Maxine Nightingale, The Babys, UFO, Robin Trower, J. Geils Band, BB King, Quincy Jones, Bee Gees, Eric Clapton, King Bees, The Rockets and American funk band Rufus. He also has his own company Ashton Entertainment Management/Broadcast Streaming Promotion. Today we discuss his time working with The Bee Gees, Robin Trower and The Babys!
