⭐ Catholic Review: 4.5/5 A spectacular conclusion to Smith’s Lensman saga, Children of the Lens centers on the five Kinnison children, whose extraordinary abilities are the culmination of an immense Arisian breeding program. The novel pits Civilization against the malevolent Eddorians in a final cosmic struggle. From a Catholic perspective, the strongest elements are its themes of self-sacrifice, courage, family responsibility, moral order, the defense of civilization, and the struggle against tyranny and evil. Its cosmic mythology, however, is firmly science-fictional rather than Christian theology. The concept of deliberately engineered superior beings also raises interesting questions about human attempts to manufacture perfection. It is the sixth and final Lensman novel, originally serialized in Astounding from November 1947 through February 1948 and later published in book form.
