Slipknot have just dropped a brand new track called “Arsenal” completely out of nowhere — on a random Wednesday evening here in Dublin — and I was NOT expecting this! In this video, I react to “Arsenal” for the first time and give my honest thoughts on Slipknot’s latest single. There’s a lot going on here. The track is raw, aggressive and driven forward by some seriously precise drumming from Eloy Casagrande, making this his first studio release with Slipknot. The song also features a huge amount of samples, scratching and other elements that immediately made me think of Sid Wilson and his contribution to the classic Slipknot sound. Considering Sid only recently departed the band, I couldn't help but wonder whether some of the imagery and ideas in the video could be interpreted as a little bit of a poke at him. Maybe I'm reading too much into it — but it's certainly interesting timing! And then there's that ending… 😳 The samples and sounds towards the end make the track genuinely disturbing and give “Arsenal” a very strange atmosphere compared with what I was expecting from Slipknot's return. Is this a sign of where the next era of Slipknot is heading?
