He argues that higher rates hurt a country where almost everyone carries debt and only 2.8% of people hold savings accounts.
Kirk then lays out why he believes central banks see value on the dip. He says central banks bought 288.9 tons of gold in the second quarter against 44.8 tons sold, a ratio of roughly 6 to 1, while individual investors reacting to financial media were the sellers. He covers China building gold depositories in Shanghai, Hong Kong and the UAE, the lawsuit facing the London Bullion Market Association, and countries moving their gold home. He explains a proposal for gold-backed Treasury bonds, with holders choosing cash or gold at redemption. He compares the U.S. dollar, down 87% since 1971, with silver (up 3,268%, from $1.80 to $58) and gold (up 9,378%, from $43.98 to over $4,000). Dr. Ardis and Kirk also discuss the $40 trillion national debt, over $1 trillion a year in interest, and the Federal Reserve as buyer of last resort for Treasuries.
