Joseph Smith's ACTUAL Signature! Oh, And IF He Weren’t a Murderer, Hofmann Would Be So Cool.

A real Joseph Smith signature still exists — on a piece of paper closer to tissue than a dollar bill.**Kirtland Safety Society.** January 1837. Anti-banking notes. Joseph and Sidney. $15,000 forty years ago. North of $500,000 now. This episode is a live comparison:- Early notes: almost always Joseph’s own hand- Later notes: secretarial — big S, too slow, too pretty- Same paper. Different hand.- Hofmann didn’t fake the notes. He *added* Brigham Young, Heber C. Kimball, and Newel K. Whitney and tripled the price- Purple haze under UV: iron-gall ink he aged too fast- PMG has authenticated Hofmann- A Hoffman forgery can be worth more than the real thing (salamander letter: $40k then, a million now in some rooms)- He started at 12 — fake mint marks on coins- Salt Lake Police evidence bags from the bomb in his own trunk, Feb 20, 1986- He practiced 65 signatures in prison. Bad Emily Dickinson. Dry ice to pop fake mint marksForty years later people still ask: is this a Hofmann?#MarkHofmann #JosephSmith #Kirtland #WardRadio### Chapter Markers0:00 – $15,000 then.
