In 800, at St. Peter’s Basilica, Pope Leo III crowned Charlemagne Emperor of the Romans, reviving the imperial title in the West.
However, Charlemagne's empire was built on both vision and violence. His influence persists, with kings and nations tracing their origins to his empire.
