Beat Wala 38: Christopher Coe on Awesome Soundwave and performing LIVE

Dela

This week on Beat Wala, Jo Youle sits down with Irish music producer, live performer and Worlds End Series creator, Christopher Coe to explore the art of live electronic music performance and the philosophy behind Awesome Soundwave (ASW), the record label he co-founded with Carl Cox, dedicated to championing artists who perform and record live.

The pair first met in Ibiza last year, a meeting that sparked a creative connection and ultimately led to Christopher collaborating with legendary UK producer Nightmares on Wax in Australia, where he was born in Melbourne.

With a career spanning decades and continents, Christopher has carved out his own path through electronic music, from running a recording studio in Amsterdam to exploring the possibilities of live performance and production.

We dive into his recent collaboration with house and techno pioneer Josh Wink, the release of their new track and his latest Berlin Sessions recordings, following in the footsteps of David Bowie, whose time there helped shape some of his most influential work.

Christopher also shares insights into his work as a mentor at Sónarq, where he’s helping the next generation of electronic musicians develop their craft.

And with Amsterdam Dance Event approaching its 30th anniversary next week, we reflect on the city’s electronic music heritage, the importance of independent studios and the evolution of a scene that has transformed global dance music culture.

From analogue experimentation and spontaneous collaborations to the future of electronic music education, this episode explores what it means to keep creating, connecting and pushing boundaries.
