Grain markets find support from slower harvest progress and export demand, while USDA data shows a sharp split in weekly corn and soybean inspections. In this October 20 edition of SF Daily, host Lorrie Boyer breaks down the market forces, livestock prices, and Plains weather shaping agriculture.
🌽 Corn & Soybeans: Corn export inspections dropped sharply, while soybean shipments topped 2 million metric tons, exceeding both last week’s and year-ago levels.
🌾 Wheat: Export inspections fell below year-ago levels, with marketing-year shipments trailing last season.
📈 Markets: A weaker U.S. dollar, stronger Gulf basis, and slower farmer selling support grain export prospects as energy markets respond to U.S.–Iran developments.
🐄 Livestock: Cattle futures were mixed, feeder cattle values slipped, and Choice and Select boxed beef prices moved in opposite directions.
🌦️ Weather: Showers and possible thunderstorms could bring precipitation to parts of Kansas and the southern Plains, but severe weather isn’t expected.
