The Amazing Maurice (a smart cat) and his Educated Rodents (a clan of smart rats) are planning one last rat-piper con job, but the town of Bad Blintz was a bad place to pick.

The smart rats are figuring out how they fit in the world, the smart cat reckons he just wants the money, the stupid-looking kid turns out to have a name, and the Mayor's fanciful daughter has read way too many books.

Meanwhile there's something nasty underground, and not just the shady rat fighting ring.
